Celebrate National Pollinator Week, June 22-28, 2008

by Dave on June 24, 2008

Governor Ruth Ann Minner has proclaimed the week of June 22-28 as Pollinator Week in Delaware. Michael Scuse, Delaware Secretary of Agriculture, and the Plant Industries staff of the Delaware Department of Agriculture (DDA), invite the public to celebrate Pollinator Week at the DDA (2320 S. DuPont Highway in Dover), by visiting DDA’s Pollinator Garden on Open Garden Day, Thursday, June 26. There will be a ribbon cutting of the Pollinator Garden, a monarch butterfly release, honey tasting, and a lot of information on bees and other pollinators. Refreshments will be served, including strawberries and blueberries donated by our very own Fifer Orchards, Magee Farms, and Blueberry Lane Farm. For information on this event contact Faith Kuehn at (302)698-4587. Pollinator Week is not just a Delaware event it is national, and there are events and festivities all over the country to celebrate the hardest-working creatures on earth that are essential to local food supply. For more information go to Pollinator Week 2008.
