Dogs in Dewey Beach

by Dave on July 20, 2008

I just returned from Dewey Beach this morning where I ran my Chesapeake off-leash. If you are looking to exercise your canine and can’t find a local beach to let Fido off-leash then Dewey is for you. Dogs are allowed off-leash anytime except from 9:30 am – 5:30 pm. Read below for more information about dogs from the Town of Dewey Beach website:

DOGS ON THE BEACH IS A PRIVILEGE”

ABUSE IT AND WE MAY LOSE IT!!

The Town of Dewey Beach wants to maximize the access and enjoyment of the beach by the public. To that end, dogs under control are allowed on the beach during specified morning and evening hours, with requirements that owners collect and remove all dog waste from the beach or anywhere else in Dewey Beach.

Compliance with the Towns dog waste requirements is a condition for continuance of the Towns allowing dogs on the beach.

If you value the privilege, you must clean up after your dog and we urge you to remind others of their obligation. If you observe others neglecting to collect and remove their dogs waste from the beach or any other areas of Dewey Beach, do not be afraid to ask them to comply.

Be advised, there is a $95.00 fine for the first offense and a $200.00 fine for any subsequent offenses. This will be enforced.
