Lewes : Surfing for Bagels

by Dave on July 25, 2008

If you want the savory taste of the freshest bagel in town, then depart from the congestion of the frozen kind and visit the Lewes location. You will find yourself in a charming and bright restaurant splashed with surfing gear and murals of the island theme.

Surf Bagel opened a few years and in just a manner of weeks was a roaring success! Dave Vitella and family mixed their love of the Hawaiian Island and Atlantic Coast surfing. The happy surfing bagel on the rip-curl invites you in for the freshest recipe and prepared bagel in town, never mind all of coastal Sussex.

The bagel quickly caught up to traditional favorite in the beach communities. The fresh made bagel is as much a treat as the iconic salt water taffy.  Working traditional early morning bakery hours; hard working crew find the lines forming fast. If you want plain, vegetable, cinnamon, they have them. The egg bagel makes the “French Toast” breakfast with the sweetest sugar glaze and cinnamon.

While the Surf Bagel serves up this historical food classic every day, be sure to beat the 2 o’clock closing time.  Buy a bag full and sample the cream cheese spreads.  In breakfast fashion bagel sandwiches are dressed-up and downright delicious. Add Green Mountain Coffee to complete the rip- curl.

Surf Bagel is situated next to Ace Hardware on Rt. 1 just north of 5 Points intersect outside of Lewes. Surf Bagel is open daily from 6 am to 2 pm.  For more info go to www.surfbagel.com.
