by Dave on March 6, 2009

The evening of March 28, 2009, promises to a memorable experience for chamber music buffs as the international award-winning Aviv String Quartet performs in the last concert of the Coastal Concerts 2008-2009 season. The concert also represents the culmination of Coastal Concert’s 10th anniversary season in which crowds have broken attendance records and musicians from around the world have suspended U.S. tours for an overnight stop in coastal Delaware.

The concert will take place at 8 p.m. at the Bethel United Methodist Church hall at the corner of West Fourth and Market streets in the center of Lewes.

“We have had a spectacular season,” says Coastal Concerts President David Cristy. “And the Aviv String Quartet will bring the season to a spectacular close with its unique and dramatic interpretations of Haydn, Shostakovich and Schubert.”

This quartet was founded in Israel in 1997 and has appeared at many venues in Europe and the United States. According to the Guardian newspaper in London, the group is rapidly emerging as one of today’s finest chamber ensembles. It has been winning competitions around the world, including First Prize at the Concours International de Quatour A Cordes de Bordeaux and the Amadeus Quartet First Prize in Heerlen, Holland.

During the last eight years, Aviv performed on the best chamber stages in the world, including the Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Barge Music Series and others in New York; the Kennedy Center, the Library of Congress and Phillips Collection in Washington D.C., and the Wigmore Hall and the Royal Festival Hall in London, England. The repertoire of the quartet is broad enough to include more than 100 chamber works and all of the musicians are recipients of scholarships from the America-Israel Cultural Foundation.

Tickets for the concert are $20 per person. Youth 18 years old and under are given free admission at the door both for themselves and for one accompanying adult. Tickets can be purchased individually at the door, or, in advance. Tickets can be purchased in advance by mail or by visiting the website www.coastalconcerts.org and clicking on “purchase tickets” for secure, on-line ordering. If you have questions, or are interested in receiving a subscription brochure for next season, or being placed on the Coastal Concert mailing list, or if you would like to volunteer, please call (888) 212-6458.
