Delaware Seashore State Park to Host 29th Annual Sandcastle Contest

by Dave on July 9, 2009

Delaware Seashore State Park is hosting its 29th Annual Sandcastle Contest! Sandcastle enthusiasts and amateurs are invited to join in on the summer fun and compete for prizes which were generously donated from businesses within in the local community all the way from Fenwick Island to the beaches of Bethany, Dewey, and Rehoboth. This year’s donated prizes range from books, food, clothing, and gift certificates to toys, boogie boards, and even some overnight stays in a woodsy cabin or local hotel!

This spectacle of creativity and community will commence on the sand and surf of the Atlantic Ocean Saturday July 11th, 2009 from 9:30 am to 1 pm at the South Inlet Day Area located just south of the Indian River Bridge. A panel of judges will then evaluate the sculpted masterpieces on their skill, creativity and use of natural materials. Prizes will be awarded at approximately 2 pm.

Two separate team categories will be offered, a 12 and under category and an All Ages category, with teams comprised of up to five participants. Those who wish to observe this event from the sidelines are also encouraged to attend. The contest is free to the public, but standard parking fees for the state parks do apply, which are $4.00 for vehicles registered in Delaware and $8.00 for vehicles registered out-of-state. A registration tent for team contestants will be set up on the beach the day of the event prior to its start. In the event of rain cancellation, the contest will be held on Saturday July 18 from 9:30am to 1 pm.
