Bryan And The Hubcaps

Gee, Bryan and the Hubcaps – it sounds like a 50s rock and roll group. And well it could have been!

Bryan Hecksher, who owns AutoGallery on Savannah Road in Lewes is the kind of guy who gives used car salesmen a good name. As independent businesses go, Bryan has one of the most successful in the area and there’s a great reason for that. He’s not your mother’s used car salesman.

In fact, the reason AutoGallery gets oodles of repeat business and has an enormous fan base is Bryan and his determination to be the most honest and ethical used car salesman of all time. And he succeeds beautifully.

Not only did this reporter spend some time at AutoGallery watching Bryan work magic with his customers to find the perfect car for them, but I marveled at his knack for working with his staff to make sure the cars rolling off his lot are in perfect condition. Oh, and one of them was the 2002 BMW I bought.

According to Bryan, he can find customers any car they want – it just takes a little time. And he’s even willing to travel to find it. Personal service like that is out of style these days, but not at Bryan’s business.

“My motto is ‘come in as a customer and leave as a friend’ and I mean it,” says Bryan. Well, it happened to me. And not only has Bryan got lots of friends in the Lewes and Rehoboth areas, but he’s always quick to give back to the community, hosting food drives, sponsoring non-profits and pitching in on any number of charity happenings – all the things that make the difference between locally owned independent businesses and the uninvolved big-box chains.

AutoGallery changes minds. Frankly, I could have bought a new sub-compact but for the same price I have a gorgeous BMW convertible that looks and runs like a new car. No brainer! And Bryan makes sure I get crackerjack service on the vehicle, too.

Bryan has been on the car business for over 22 year, and he says “I have listened to all of my customers and they always have the same concerns… feeling nervous, pressured, discriminated against at other dealers… I never want anyone to feel this way walking into the AutoGallery.”

Oh, I almost forgot about the hubcaps. Bryan was hubcap king in high school, turning his hobby for collecting stray hubcaps into a back yard business that became the envy of entrepreneurs everywhere. When his mom got tired of answering the door to find people wanting to purchase hubcaps he made her an offer she couldn’t refuse: he asked her to be a salesperson for him and she became a top seller. By the time Bryan closed up shop and moved on, he was stocking thousands and thousands of hubcaps, for every make and model car available. And Mom had retired from a great career!

And don’t worry if you are not in the market for a car right now – you can visit Bryan for a fantastic detail job on your current vehicle, paintless dent repair, or a touch up on your car’s paint job. Or, just go by and look at the really cool cars on the lot! You can find AutoGallery at 1144A Savannah Road in Lewes. Or give Bryan a call at 302-645-5353.

Missing a hub cap? Now on that score I’m certain Bryan will take an interest!
