Restaurateurs participating in the June 6 Taste of Lewes met recently to make plans for the event, which is presented by the Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park and sponsored by Community Bank Delaware. Front row: John Smith (Irish Eyes), Roberta Wuttke (Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory), Joann Elliott (Party Time Catering University of Delaware) Second row: Ryan Blakeman (Ry-Breads), John Donato (The Buttery), Lisa McDonald (The Buttery), Gary Piner (The Greene Turtle), Matt DiSabatino (Half-Full, Kindle, Striper-Bites), Mike Spray (Annabella’s)

On Thursday, May 13, many of the restaurateurs participating in the June 6 Taste of Lewes (TOL) met at the Virden Center, site of the event, to review TOL details including menu variety and to learn from co-Chair Barbara Warnell the targeted use of event proceeds, which is the funding of a wide variety of activities in Lewes Canalfront Park.

The restaurateurs, who so generously give of their time and products, reconfirmed their commitment to the community and Canalfront Park.

“Flip Flop Fun” is the theme of this year’s Taste of Lewes, which is presented by the Friends of Lewes Canalfront Park and sponsored by Community Bank Delaware. The 6th Annual event will take place Sunday, June 6, from noon to 3pm, at the Virden Center of the University of Delaware, 700 Pilottown Road.

Tickets for the event, priced at $35 in advance and $40 at the door, are still available. They can be purchased at the Canalfront Park Office, Community Bank Delaware, Lewes Chamber of Commerce, and Café Azafran.

Supporting the “Flip Flop Fun” motif, Lewes merchants Micha Seto of Blooming Boutique and Melanie Ullman of Pure Bliss have donated $5 gift certificates, which are attached to each TOL ticket. This is yet another indication of community support for the event.

A fun afternoon (rain or shine) is promised with a wide variety of great food and drink offered by many of the top local restaurants, caterers, and purveyors of spirits. Participating this year are Annabella’s, Agave, Béseme, The Buttery, Café Azafran, Dogfish Head Brewery, Half Full, Irish Eyes, Jerry’s Seafood, Kindle, Party Time Catering/University of Delaware, Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory, Ry-Breads, 1776 Steak House, Striper Bites, Sugar Baker Cakes, Teller Wines, The Greene Turtle, and Villa Sorrento.

The steel band, “Plenty Problems,” will once again set the mood, performing their award winning calypso & salsa music.
