Carper, Kaufman Among Senators Voting In Favor

The Senate has confirmed Elena Kagan to be the fourth woman ever to serve as a Supreme Court justice.

The Senate approved President Barack Obama’s nominee Thursday. Kagan’s addition to the court marks the first time three female justices have served concurrently.

Delaware Senators Tom Carper and Ted Kaufman, both Democrats, voted to confirm Kagan’s nomination. Here is Sen. Kaufman’s statement on the vote:

“Throughout her career, Elena Kagan has consistently demonstrated a first-rate intellect and a non-ideological approach to identifying and solving problems, two traits that are indispensable in any great judge. She has all the qualities necessary to serve all Americans, and the rule of law, on our nation’s highest court. I was proud to support her nomination. She will be a great Supreme Court justice.”
