Children’s Beach House Barbecue Next Weekend

by Dave on August 20, 2010

Chairperson Eileen Clark and her committee members eagerly anticipate the 8th Annual Beach House Barbecue on Saturday, August 28th from 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. at the Children’s Beach House, located at 1800 Bay Avenue in Lewes.

As always, the fundraiser benefits the organization’s programs, serving at-risk children, ages 7-18 statewide. The young people engage in arts and crafts, boating, kayaking, swimming, sports, group activities, and environmental education. These programs and activities expose them to enrichment in speech, language, and social development.

“Our wheels have been spinning since September 2009 preparing for this event, whose theme recognizes one of America’s favorite pastimes,” stated Clark. “The event titled, ‘A Bicycle Built for You’ will feature beach cruisers, motorcycles, mopeds, mountain bikes, tricycles, scooters, and more! The food, entertainment, decorations, and venue are all set. We have only to await our guests’ arrival!”

The Beach Barbecue features a unique auction, including the designs of 13 local artists. Lynne McKay, Gary Crowl, Connie Miller, Faith Lord, Nick Serratore, Jean Doran, Steve Rogers, Aina Negaard Nammack, Kim Klabe, Sherry Lee Biele, Tara Funk Grim, Damon Pla, and Carolyn Freas have each cleverly decorated a wooden bench to be auctioned during the event. These hand-painted masterpieces may currently be previewed at several locations in Rehoboth and Lewes or online at www.cbhinc.org. “The auction, which starts as a silent auction and then goes live the last half- hour, is always a highlight of the evening,” said Sharon Gillespie, Art Chair.
