Governor’s Weekly Message: Labor Day

by Dave on September 3, 2010

In his weekly message, Governor Markell talks about Labor Day as the traditional end to summer beach crowds, BBQs and baseball, weather pending; it also is the holiday that honors some of our country’s core values – responsibility, drive, resilience and faith that by working hard, you can, and should, get ahead.

“While we’re focused on our loved ones this Labor Day weekend, we remain focused on the future and how we can keep people working and expand economic opportunity across our great state,” said Governor Markell. “Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, we turned into law bipartisan efforts to put people back to work and keep others working.”

Those efforts included a bipartisan budget, which funds fewer state positions and meets increasing demands for education, healthcare and public safety; an innovative Business Finder’s Fee tax credit or “BFF,” which aims to turn employers into a sales force for the state by offering them incentives for any new jobs they help bring here and a Clean Energy Jobs package, designed to put more people to work in expanding industries such as wind and solar power.
