Lewes extends moratorium

by Michael Short on September 15, 2010

Lewes City Council agreed to extend a moratorium on new windmills and wind turbines within the city limits during Monday’s town council meeting.

Mayor Jim Ford said the existing moratorium, due to expire next month, will be extended for about six more months. That will give the city time to fine tune a draft ordinance and allow the city to hold public hearings on that ordinance.

The council voted on Monday, September 13 to extend the moratorium until March 15, 2011. Ford said there are currently no pending applications by anyone wanting to build a windmill within the town limits.
