Lewes Man Rams Police Car During Drug Stop

A Lewes man is in custody following a traffic stop in Seaford in which he allegedly rammed his car into the police vehicle that pulled him over.

During the course of a drug investigation on Monday, authorities attempted to stop a 1998 Silver BMW in the parking lot of the Sears Department Store located at 22954 Sussex Highway in Seaford. As the Troopers approached the rear of BMW and identified themselves as Police Officers, the driver, Phillip L. Brewer, 29, of Ellenwood Ave. in Lewes, placed his car in reverse and drove into the front end of a Delaware State Police vehicle. Brewer then fled striking a second police vehicle along the way. As Brewer was fleeing State Troopers observed an item being thrown from the window of his BMW. The item was later determined to be 25 grams of marijuana and 5 grams of crack cocaine.

Brewer continued onto US 13 southbound disregarding two Red traffic lights at the intersections of Concord Road (CR 535) and also US 13 and Concord Road (SR 20 Seaford). Brewer next turned onto Pine Drive off O’Neal’s Road Seaford and fled from his vehicle. As Brewer fled from his vehicle he again attempted to discard of his illegal drugs. Delaware State Police found approximately 29 grams of crack cocaine which Brewer had thrown away just prior to his apprehension. The authorities seized 25 grams of marijuana and 34 grams of crack cocaine.

Following a short foot pursuit Brewer was apprehended and arrested on Drug and driving related offenses. Brewer was incarcerated into Sussex Correctional Institute on $274,000 cash bond.
