Top 3 Activities this Coastal Sussex Weekend!

by Dave on June 6, 2008

What to do? Well, since the weather is forecast to be in the high 90s I would advise…………1. Relax on the beach with family and friends. If I was in Lewes Cape Henlopen State Parkis the choice. Other choices include Fenwick Island State Park and Delaware Seashore State Park. Just get to any of these parks early and enjoy the sun and sand. Be prepared to pay a small fee at each entrance or purchase a seasonal pass for $20. Non-residents pay a higher fee. Go to www.destateparks.com for park fees.

2. Take an early morning hike at Prime Hook or TrapPond State Park. Get out of bed and prepare to view the magical morning of a Coastal Sussex sunrise. See Blue Herons, Osprey, and even a Bald Eagle. Prime Hook can be accessed by driving north on Route 1 and taking a right on Route 16. Prime Hook National Wildlife Refuge is no less than 2 miles on the left.

3. For the adventurer, rent a kayak and explore the Delaware Bay. Stop by Quest Fitness and Kayak, rent a tandem kayak, and head to Lewes Beach for an early morning or late afternoon paddle to the East End Lighthouse. Take plenty of water, sunscreen and a hat.

Bonus – stop by Fiefer Orchards on the way to Dewey and pick up some fresh Delaware produce…..

Enjoy the weekend and stay safe on the water or in the woods!
