Fiscal 2009 Sussex County Budget

by Dave on June 7, 2008

Sussex County Council will hold a hearing on June 17, 2008 at 10 am to adopt the proposed budget.

Every resident should be interested in the passing of the Fiscal Year 2009 Sussex County Budget. As our economy teeters on a recession and as local real estate transactions decline, it is imperative everyone spend at least a few minutes understanding some the line items within the financial document that governs this great county.

The county budget staff have estimated that the 1.5% real estate transfer tax will be down by 20%. I hope they are correct as home purchases are around 560 for the year as one sign says outside of Lewes. Just recall that in 2005 the realty transfer tax was $36 million and now is down to $17 million.
