Beer Wars Story Coming Along

by Dave on March 17, 2009

dogbeersOne of the pieces I am doing for the first issue of Coastal Sussex Weekly is on the documentary “Beer Wars,” featuring Sam Calagione and Dogfish Head Craft Brewery.

Yesterday, I had the opportunity to speak with the movie’s director, Anat Baron, about the film & about Dogfish Head in particular. I was intrigued by how our local brewery is now recognized as the standard-bearer, or one of a very small group of standard-bearers, for the craft brewing industry, and how Sam’s story echoed throughout their field.

“When you’re making a feature film, you have to find people who have a story to tell,” Baron told “I got a sense of who (Calagione) was, his passion. He’s a take-no-prisoners kind of guy. What the film does is it takes a look at him as an entrepreneur and as a brewer who believes enough in himself and in his dream to fund it.”

Today, I went down to the Dogfish Head Craft Brewery to talk to Calagione himself about the movie and his brewery’s role in it. The entire interview will be a part of the Coastal Sussex Weekly release, but I will release portions of it as we get closer to the April 16th date.

Also, if you sign up for a free subscription to Coastal Sussex Weekly, you will be entered in our “Beer Wars” giveaway of four tickets to the April 16th special Wilmington, DE showing of “Beer Wars LIVE” and four Dogfish Head hats, courtesy of Dogfish Head Craft Brewery.
