Dover – The Office of Highway Safety encourages the public to come out this Saturday April 18th for the 1st Annual Cape Henlopen State Park Safety Day. The event will be held from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. rain or shine in the bathhouse parking lot at Cape Henlopen State Park.

This fun and interactive day at the beach is aimed at promoting a variety of safety behaviors and is sponsored by the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension and Delaware State Parks. The Office of Highway Safety is a participant and will be providing information on traffic safety topics such as child passenger safety, seat belts, pedestrian safety, impaired driving and aggressive driving.

The event will also feature a bicycle safety rodeo, impaired driving demonstrations in the SIDNE Go-Kart, programs from the Delaware State Fire School, and equipment displays from the Lewes Fire Department and Police Department. Parents and kids can learn more about Fire and Home safety, Outdoor safety, and Water and Boating safety.

The event itself is free, however, there is a Park entrance fee of $4.00 for in-state vehicles and $8.00 for out of state vehicles. For more information on the event contact Merritt Burke at the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension Office in Georgetown at 302-856-2585 ext. 584 or at
