Grotto Pizza – Famous throughout the region as a must-do beach event, Grotto’s is synonymous with Rehoboth Beach in many visitors’ eyes. Started in 1960 selling 20-cent slices and $1.60 pies. Locations throughout the area serve up Grotto’s special blend of pizza all year round.

Nicola Pizza – this multi-generational Caggiano family business is home of the famed Nicoboli (ground beef, pizza sauce & cheese wrapped in pizza dough and baked). You can easily find Nicola. Just look for the throng of people waiting on First Street to get in. 8 North First St., Rehoboth Beach. (302) 227-6211,

Louie’s Pizza – just feet off of the Rehoboth boardwalk is the shop some say has the best pizza of all – Louie’s. Be sure to also get a cheese steak, which they put through the pizza oven to melt the cheese and toast the roll. 11 Rehoboth Ave., Rehoboth Beach. (302) 227-6002

The Miltonian – Off the beaten path in the town of Milton is the Miltonian Pizzeria & Wing House, which makes excellent saucy, cheesy pizzas and also serves a full menu of Italian dishes, including baked pastas, stromboli and calzones. Try the Mona Lisa Pizza (artichoke hearts, black olives, tomatoes & fresh mushrooms). 618 Mulberry St., Milton (302) 684-1111.

Half Full – this 500 square foot pizza bistro in downtown Lewes only does two things, but it does them very well: homemade pizza and wine. Try the “braised beef with caramelized onion” (roasted tomato sauce, caramelized onion, blue cheese, braised flank steak). 113 Market Street, Lewes. (302) 645-8877,

Mr. P’s Pizza & Pasta – Authentic Italian favorite of the Lewes locals, Mr. P’s serves up twenty different pizzas on the menu, including the Chevre Bianca (whole milk mozzarella, fontina cheese, goat cheese & artichokes) and the San Giorgio (tomato sauce, whole milk mozzarella, ground Italian sausage, pepperoni). 1004 Kings Hwy., Lewes.
