Restaurant Row – Beseme

As first appeared in Coastal Sussex Weekly, May 21, 2009:

Tucked away just off of Lewes’ Second Street is the delectable Beseme, located inside the Hotel Rodney.

The highlight of the offerings at Beseme is the “Small Bites” menu, featuring delicious plates like crispy scallops with wasabi mayo, serrano-wrapped shrimp with red onion salsa and warm figs with goat cheese.

Be careful with the small plates however. Because they are each so tasty, you could end up spending a fortune if you attempt to try the entire Small Bites menu item by item.

On the main menu, you will find innovative main dishes incorporating some of the best of foreign cuisine, like the Cuban ropa vieja ($26) and the lamb-based Moroccan Shepherd’s Pie ($18).

The main menu also features several salads as main dishes, including the Bleu Michel (sliced tenderloin, grape tomatoes, mushrooms,
bleu cheese dressing w/crumbled bleu cheese) and the Macho (roast chicken, goat cheese, figs, baby corn, tomatoes, pine nuts, avocado
over spring mix, cornmeal croutons, champagne vinaigrette).

Also, Beseme is now offering a variety of burgers for $12 (ground lamb w/ feta & caramelized onions, bison, turkey or beef ).

The atmosphere at Beseme is eclectic, the service professional, and although it is difficult to locate the restrooms (they’re through the hotel lobby), Beseme boasts one of the best large-party tables in the area, located in the rear of the restaurant.
