As first appeared in Coastal Sussex Weekly, May 7, 2009:

For many Dewey Beach summer seasons, Gary Cannon and his staff at Gary’s Dewey Beach Grill have served up the finest in healthy summer cuisine. If you’re looking for junk food, you will not be stopping at Gary’s.

However, if you’re looking for a seared cajun catfish sandwich or a turkey cheesesteak for lunch, point your compass to the corner of Highway One and New Orleans Street in the heart of Dewey Beach. Also available during the daytime hours are a variety of salads, hummus, fresh pasta salad, blackened tuna or turkey burger on a wrap and even soy burgers.

For the dinner hour, start with hummus, grilled veggies or a shrimp & crab quesadilla before you feast on fresh fish, wild mushroom ravioli, jambalaya, or crab cakes.

Gary’s also features a sushi menu after 5pm, with 10 varieties of maki; tuna or salmon sashimi; seaweed salad and more. It is possible to please your taste buds at the beach and still take care of your body: go to Gary’s in Dewey Beach. Seating is available inside and outside at Gary’s, so you can sit in and cool your jets or sit out and watch the Dewey Beach Way of Life in action.

Bodies are not the only thing that Cannon takes care of. Gary’s recently became the first business in Dewey Beach to install solar panels on its roof to reduce its consumption of fossil fuel energy.

Tasty food and environmentally conscious? Can’t beat that team.
