Restaurant Row — Ed’s Chicken & Crabs

by Dave on June 25, 2009

First seen in Coastal Sussex Weekly, June 4, 2009:

Situated on the corner of Swedes Street and Coastal Highway in bustling Dewey Beach is Ed’s Chicken & Crabs. Serving the finest blue crabs and grilled 1/2 chickens with their secret sauce, owner Ed Riggin and manager Gard Shugart don’t mess with a winning recipe.

The relaxing, informal atmpsphere that only a roadside seafood shack can offer, combined with a BYOB policy that lends itself to the feeling of an outdoor picnic, all adds up to a fun time.

The highlight of a trip to Ed’s are the crabs. Maryland’s finest are steamed to perfection and seasoned likewise, served up on plastic trays with mallets and knives and plenty of paper towels.

Not willing to take a back seat is the chicken, grilled dozens at a time and basted with Ed’s secret sauce, a vinegar-based marinade that rivals any chicken baste anywhere.

When you serve as many crabs for as many years as Ed hass, you learn a little about seafood, so be sure not to miss the steamed clams, steamed shrimp or the crab cake.

So have your fun in the sun, but when your beach day is over, stop in to see “Chicken Ed” and try some great food in a true Delaware beach environment.
