Restaurant Row – Louie’s Pizza

by Dave on August 22, 2009

For many years, Louie’s Pizza has produced a delicious slice of pizza that equaled, if not surpassed, their more well-known rivals, Grotto & Nicola.

Mere steps from the Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk on the north side of Rehoboth Avenue, the Gouvas family continues to treat locals and visitors alike with pan-style pizza and mouth-watering hoagies and cheese steaks.

Louie Gouvas opened his pizza shop in 1974, when Rehoboth was a far different place than it was today. Since then, the store has made its name with locals for its pan-style pizza, even though the store bills itself as the “Home of the Grinder.”

Be sure to try one of those grinders, particularly the cheesesteak grinder, which is prepared to order and then run through the pizza oven, resulting in a unique combination of melted cheese and toasted bread and a wonderful aroma.

Another not-to-miss item at Louie’s is the gyro, a traditional pairing of beef, lamb, onion, tomato and cucmber sauce served on a pita. So whether it’s a gyro, a hoagie or a great piece of pizza, Louie’s should be right at the top of your list.
