Sketch This!

Most of us think we are funny.  We may even have a joke or two that we can confidently tell. But could you do it in front of an audience that is talking back and telling you what to do? That’s improvisational comedy or improv. If you’ve seen Who’s Line is it Anyway?, then you have seen improv. On the other hand, if you have watched Saturday Night Live or Mad TV, you have seen scripted or “sketch” comedy.

At the Delaware Beaches, we are blessed to have two comedy groups, the well-established and always comical, Delaware Comedy Theater with David Warick at the head.  (We plan to catch up to Dave in a future column.)  The other is a new group, Sketch This!

Your browser may not support display of this image. This week I chatted with Kristine Knowlton, the founder of Sketch This!.  KK handles the PR and Publicity for RoseColored Glasses Production Company, a new theatre company at the Delaware Beaches.  Part of the RoseColored Glasses performance mission is to establish an improv and sketch comedy group — with the emphasis on the latter.

Kristine is calling on a love for comedy that started in the 8th grade when she played Goldie Locks in an improvised trial for breaking and entering. Improv continued to call to her because, like life, it is unscripted.

With the founding of Sketch This!, she is adding sketch comedy to the improv mix. She believes that this addition will enhance the funny stuff at the beaches because it is one facet of comedy that is not being presented in our area.

Right now, Sketch This! is getting together for brainstorming ideas, writing sketches, rehearsing and getting to know each other.  As a newborn in our midst, the group needs people to participate. Is there a Jerry Lewis, Steve Martin, Jerry Seinfeld or Wanda Sykes in you? If you have funny bones, contact Kristine at 302-465-8716

Make me laugh!!!
