by Dave on March 29, 2010

Grab them while they last! The Historic Lewes Farmers Market will hold its major fund raising event on Saturday, April 24th at the Officers Club at Cape Henlopen State Park. The party is on from 6:30 to 10:30. Your $75 ticket covers live music with Big Hat, No Cattle, a barbecue dinner with all the fixings, wine and beer. A live auction features art, trips and dinners. Wear those favorite blue jeans and cowboy boots!

This event is almost sold out but there are a few remaining tickets! So, practice your line dancing, grab the phone and call 644-1436 to reserve your tickets.

On May 29, we begin our fifth year as the most successful farmers market in Delaware. At the market, you will find an amazing variety of local foods—all fresh and bursting with flavor. From Savoy Cabbage to Chioggia Beets to new artisanal cheeses and fresh baguettes—they will all be available at the Historic Lewes Farmers Market this summer. We have added farmers this year who will help diversify our producer-only, community market even more. This season, you will not only see all our favorite farmers, cheesemakers, creameries, jam and jelly makers, beef, pork and seafood vendors, and bakers from previous years, but you will now be able to buy fresh lamb, farmed oysters and much more.

Our market workshops, demonstrations, and festivals will continue, and, in partnership with the Lewes Public Library, we will continue the Children’s Story Time at the market (featuring books that highlight the importance of farms, eating well, and eating locally). Do you know that every minute of every day, we lose two acres of agricultural land to development in this country? We believe that we must help preserve our farms in Delaware, help our children understand where their food comes from and instill in them the belief that we must carefully steward our resources. We look forward to seeing you at the market on May 29.
