by Dave on July 29, 2010

The University of Delaware School of Marine Science and Policy’s popular Ocean Currents Lecture Series continues in August with a talk on offshore wind energy.

The lecture will take place at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 19, in Room 104 of Cannon Lab at UD’s Hugh R. Sharp Campus in Lewes. The event is free, but reservations are required.

Delivering the lecture will be Drew Murphy, executive vice president and northeast region president with NRG Energy Inc . Murphy’s talk is titled “Offshore Wind in Delaware: Clean Energy from the Ocean,” and will discuss the planned mid-Atlantic wind park to be built by NRG Bluewater Wind LLC about 13 miles east of Cape Henlopen. Murphy will explain the project and discuss its environmental and financial benefits.

This is the final lecture in the 2010 Ocean Currents Series, which takes place once a month each summer at UD’s Lewes campus on Pilottown Road. Light refreshments are served at each hourlong lecture.

For reservations, contact Michelle Scorziello at or 302-645-4346.
